Photo Sharing Rules
For photos shared to Carthage Through the Years. Version 1.
What this is. Through the Years is a free community archive of old photos of our towns, run by Our Town Heritage. Sharing a photo is optional and costs nothing. You need a free account so we know who shared it.
Your photo. You took the photo, or it belongs to you or your family, or you have permission from whoever took it or owns it to share it. It isn’t copied from a newspaper, studio, book or website. You are 18 or older. Anyone recognisable in it is OK with it being shared (or, for people who have passed away, their family would be).
What we may do with it. Show the photo, with your caption and year as you wrote them and with credit, in the town’s Through the Years archive and on our websites and social media. You keep ownership of your photo; this is a non-exclusive, royalty-free permission.
Prints and merchandise. We never make prints, products or merchandise from your photo unless we ask you first and you say yes.
Credit. Your photo is credited the way your account is set: first name and last initial, full name, or “A neighbor” if you hide your name or haven’t added one. You can change this any time in the account menu.
Review. Every photo is reviewed before it appears. We may decline any photo, add a year or place we can confirm, or fix an obvious typo in a caption.
Removal. You can ask us to remove or blur a photo at any time with “Request removal” on its page; it is hidden right away while we look at it. Deleting your account removes your photos from public pages.
Privacy. We use your account details only to run the archive, prevent abuse and contact you about your photo. We never sell or share them. See our privacy policy.
